The ladies singing along to what they refer to as “our song” in the opening moments of PLAZA DE LA SOLEDAD might be retirees on a day trip, but the song’s lyrics of “the pain and sorrow of Cabaret love paid for money” hit home for these older women still making a living as prostitutes. Noted Mexican photographer Maya Goded makes an impressive filmmaking debut with this sensitive look at the lives of the women in some of her most famous photos. — Mark Page
