SONITA Feature Documentary

Sonita is a teenage Afghan refugee and aspiring rap artist living in Iran, a country that does not permit females to perform in public. Afghanistan’s bride price — where a groom pays the parents of the bride — means she’s worth money to her family, who want her to return home to get married. Sonita believes music will be her escape in this compelling portrait of a young woman’s struggle for creative and personal freedom.
