MOONLIGHT SONATA: DEAFNESS IN THREE MOVEMENTS Anthem

MOONLIGHT SONATA tells an intimate multigenerational family story of loss and discovery through deafness. Filmmaker Irene Taylor Brodsky’s first child, Jonas, began losing his hearing as a toddler and undergoes cochlear-implant surgery. While Brodsky can hear, her parents are also deaf, growing up in a silent world and having only recently received cochlear implants. Brodsky documents her family’s journey as Jonas grows older and her parents grow older. As Jonas turns 11, he decides to learn “Moonlight Sonata,” a piece Beethoven wrote while going deaf.

Brodsky crafts a beautiful film of love and sound in all its messy forms as Jonas finds his voice and her parents face new challenges in a world of noise.
