SHANGRI-LA Anthem

In the hills of Malibu lies a minimalist and Zenlike recording studio run by legendary music producer Rick Rubin. Shangri-La, as the iconic estate is known, exists as a retreat for eclectic artists as they collaborate with Rubin on their creative process.

From filmmaker Morgan Neville comes a docuseries following Rubin’s music career, which began in the 1980s as co-founder of Def Jam Records. His work launched artists like Public Enemy, Beastie Boys and Run DMC, and has earned him multiple Grammy Awards from productions with Adele, Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Dixie Chicks.

SHANGRI-LA shares Rubin’s story and the emotion journey of making music. With appearances from Tyler the Creator, The Avett Brothers and David Lynch, these two episodes explore ideas on meditation, creativity and the pursuit of great artistry.
