RAISE HELL: THE LIFE & TIMES OF MOLLY IVINS Galas

RAISE HELL: THE LIFE & TIMES OF MOLLY IVINS tells the story of political commentator and Pulitzer Prize-nominated author Molly Ivins. Spending her childhood in the powerful community of Houston, Texas, shaped her perspective and persona. A maverick voice in journalism, Ivins used humor to speak truth about social inequalities, expose corrupt government and poke at the political elite. She became the first woman to co-edit the Texas Observer, and her column ran in hundreds of newspapers across America.

Filmmaker Janice Engel crafts a witty and entertaining portrait of Ivins, who died of cancer in 2007, while giving life to her words. It is a refreshing reminder to stand up to threats against the First Amendment and be bold in today’s political climate. Winner of the Audience Award at the SXSW Film Festival.

Award-winning filmmaker and showrunner Janice Engel has made numerous documentaries, nonfiction television specials and series, including JACKSON BROWNE: GOING HOME, TED HAWKINS: AMAZING GRACE and the docuseries ADDICTED. She co-created WHAT WE CARRY, an ongoing multimedia documentary series dedicated to preserving Holocaust survivors’ stories. Premiered at the Simon Wiesenthal Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles and housed in the permanent collection at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem, WHAT WE CARRY has been viewed by more than 50,000 people.
