TRUE JUSTICE: BRYAN STEVENSON’S FIGHT FOR EQUALITY Galas

Description

As a lawyer defending the rights of condemned prisoners on death row, Bryan Stevenson has argued many cases before the U.S. Supreme Court. Each time, he takes a moment to read the words etched on the building: “Equal Justice Under Law.” Stevenson says, “I have to believe that, to make sense out of what I do.”

Fighting for equal justice within a system that has allowed slavery, lynching, segregation, and, now, mass incarceration, is Stevenson’s life work. He founded the Equal Justice Initiative in Montgomery, Alabama to provide legal services for the poor and is the driving force behind a new national lynching memorial. TRUE JUSTICE makes the case that Stevenson is among the rarest of storytellers, one whose words are every bit as moving as what’s written on the Supreme Court building.

Peter Kunhardt (Director/Executive Producer)
Peter Kunhardt directed JOHN MCCAIN: FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS; KING IN THE WILDERNESS; BECOMING WARREN BUFFETT; and LIVING WITH LINCOLN. He and two of his sons run Kunhardt Films, which has produced THE AFRICAN AMERICANS: MANY RIVERS TO CROSS; JIM: THE JAMES FOLEY STORY; GLORIA: IN HER OWN WORDS; NIXON BY NIXON: IN HIS OWN WORDS; AND TEDDY: IN HIS OWN WORDS. Kunhardt has won six Emmys®, a Peabody Award, an Alfred I. DuPont–Columbia University Award and an NAACP Image Award. He is a founding board member of the Gordon Parks Foundation and the Kunhardt Film Foundation.

George Kunhardt (Producer/Director)
George Kunhardt is an Emmy® Award winning film director and producer at Kunhardt Films.
