SEARCHING EVA Portrait

SEARCHING EVA is a biographical portrait of Eva, a young artist and sex worker living in Berlin who regularly broadcasts her identity across Instagram for her followers, both dedicated and harsh. Daring and brazen, filmmaker Pia Hellenthal depicts Eva, her sex work, drug use and poetic desire to live life honestly. As she unfurls herself in front of the camera, the complexity of her presentation obscures as much as it reveals. Living off-and-on with her mother in Berlin, our feminist protagonist expresses herself through any means possible, through her tattoos, selfies and in telling her own story. What is it like to be a 25-year-old woman living in the end of the second decade of the 21st century? Eva carries a powerful strength as a modern online sculptress of her own identity. SEARCHING EVA is a distinctive collaboration between filmmaker and subject and an unforgettable portrait, with one of the most surprising cinematic heroines of the year.
