SLAY THE DRAGON Truth and Justice

The issue of gerrymandering might seem better suited for a political science textbook than as the subject of a feature-length documentary, but this thoroughly engrossing investigation of partisan redistricting dramatizes precisely what is making our political system sick and, possibly, how it can be healed.

In recent years, politicians and their hired consultants have re-drawn voting districts with crooked, squiggly lines that may seem like a kindergartner’s handicraft. In fact, the lines are the result of a concerted, data-driven process intended to maximize the majority party’s hold on safe districts. A brilliantly constructed puzzle that lays bare a cynical practice that is undermining our elections, SLAY THE DRAGON is also an inspirational story of the power of the people to take back our democracy.

Barak Goodman and Chris Durrance have directed several films together, including CLINTON for PBS’s American Experience, and the six-part series CANCER: THE EMPEROR OF ALL MALADIES. Separately and together, they have won numerous Peabody, Emmy®, and Writers Guild Awards, and an Academy Award® nomination.
