Sergei Loznitsa was born on September 5, 1964. He grew up in Kiev and studied filmmaking at VGIK (Moscow). Loznitsa has directed 22 award-winning documentaries and four fiction films. All four fiction films premiered at the Festival de Cannes. In 2013, Loznitsa launched his own production company ATOMS & VOID.
